Hispano Suiza celebrates its 120th anniversary with the grand unveiling of the Carmen Sagrera, the latest addition to its lineup of electric hypercars. The Carmen Sagrera boasts a stunning design evolution, enhanced performance, and a next-generation battery, solidifying Hispano Suiza’s position at the forefront of electric mobility.
A Legacy Steeped in Innovation
The unveiling ceremony at Finca Mas Solers brought together industry leaders, media representatives, and brand loyalists to witness the birth of this electrifying new chapter. Miguel Suqué, President of Hispano Suiza, emphasised the enduring spirit of innovation that has defined the brand since its inception by his great-grandfathers Damián Mateu and Marc Birkigt.
“This is a story of people, of cars, and of numbers, of course,” Suqué said. “But above all, it is about people who work as a team and love a unique and challenging project—a project with a lot of soul.”
Taking Electric Technology to the Next Level
The Carmen Sagrera features Hispano Suiza’s second-generation battery, entirely designed and manufactured in-house at their Montmeló facility. This new 103 kWh battery boasts significant advancements:
Increased Capacity and Range: The new battery offers a 30% improvement in capacity over the previous generation, translating to a driving range of approximately 480 km (WLTP cycle).
Enhanced Cooling System: A lighter, more sustainable cooling system ensures optimal temperature control and reduces energy consumption.
Improved Weight Distribution: The T-shaped central positioning of the battery optimises weight distribution for superior dynamic performance.
A Design Evolution That Honors Heritage
The Carmen Sagrera’s design language masterfully blends sportiness with timeless elegance. The front end features a pointed grille reminiscent of the Hispano Suiza Alfonso XIII sports cars, while redesigned air vents seamlessly flow from front to back. New side sills accentuate the car’s profile, culminating in a striking rear design.
Francesc Arenas, Head of Design at Hispano Suiza, explains the design philosophy: “We aimed to uphold the brand’s sporty legacy, drawing inspiration from iconic designs… I dare say that with the Sagrera, we have refined the concept of sportiness while maintaining our tradition of excellence and setting the stage for future designs.”
The rear design is particularly noteworthy, featuring a large, stork wing-inspired spoiler that pays homage to the Hispano Suiza logo. This aerodynamic-enhancement improves downforce and grip for exceptional handling. The diffuser, integrated with copper accents, further enhances both aesthetics and downforce.
The interior continues the sporty theme, featuring a redesigned centre console and infotainment system upholstered in Alcantara with black and red leather details. The Carmen Sagrera is presented in a unique Cava Gold finish, a matte hue that embodies both elegance and sportiness.
Thrilling Performance to Match the Design
The Carmen Sagrera packs a serious punch with four 205 kW (275 hp) electric motors, delivering a combined output of 1,100 horsepower and 1,160 Nm of torque. This translates to a blistering 0-to-100 km/h acceleration time of just 2.6 seconds.
The power is efficiently transferred to the rear axle via a virtual self-locking differential, ensuring optimal grip and handling. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tyres, co-designed with Michelin and featuring a unique stork and mosaic pattern inspired by Antoni Gaudí, further elevate the car’s exclusivity.
A Masterclass in Engineering
Hispano Suiza engineers have meticulously crafted Carmen Sagrera’s suspension system for unparalleled performance. The car features adjustable shock absorbers, coil springs, and an anti-roll bar for exceptional handling. Lightweight suspension components made from a special military-grade material further enhance performance.
The braking system features single-block callipers for superior rigidity and an improved pedal feel. 400mm carbon ceramic discs provide exceptional stopping power, even under extreme conditions.
A Legacy Continues
Following its grand unveiling, the Carmen Sagrera will make its dynamic debut at the Goodwood Festival of Speed in mid-July. With only 24 units to be produced, the Carmen Sagrera promises to be a coveted addition to the world of electric hypercars. Hispano Suiza, with its rich heritage and unwavering commitment to innovation, looks to a bright future at the forefront of electric mobility.
