Shanghai-based premium electric vehicle manufacturer HiPhi has released limited information and a few images of its upcoming hypercar dubbed the ‘A’. The A will be HiPhi’s fourth product after the X, Z, and Y EVs. Straight off the bat, the HiPhi A looks like a serious performance vehicle – the low-slung GT-esque silhouette and a front that looks like it has been inspired by the Nissan GT-R give the A fantastic visual appeal. It also seems to be built with practicality in mind – the makers have gone with a four-seat, four-door configuration. However, one look at the released specs is enough to make anyone realise that strong visual appeal could be the A’s second-best feature.
The A’s 800V electric powertrain has been developed in-house by HiPhi (including the battery pack), with technology support from China’s Wesail New Energy Automotive. The powertrain features a triple-motor configuration, with one motor mounted to the front axle and two to the rear. Here’s where things get interesting. The motors feature ultra-high-strength carbon fibre rotors and magnetic cylinder coil cooling technology, which allows them to spin at a colossal 22,000rpm. The motors are fed power by a battery that can discharge up to 1.5MW of peak power. Other specs, such as the capacity and range, are yet to be revealed. The battery pack comes with dedicated carbon fibre skid plate protection and bulletproof coating.
As a result of all the advanced hardware, the HiPhi A’s projected output stands at a staggering 1,287bhp and 13,800Nm of torque (at the wheels). At the moment, HiPhi claims the A can do the 0-100km/h run in 2.0+ seconds and a top speed of 290+km/h. These stats seem impressive if achieved.
To aid driving dynamics, the A also features 50:50 front-to-rear weight distribution, carbon ceramic brakes, active rear-wheel steering, torque-vectoring, and adjustable damping with air suspension.
The HiPhi A will debut at the Guangzhou Auto Show on 17th November, with production set to begin in the first quarter of 2025. Once on the streets, the A will be a worthy competitor to the likes of the Rimac Nevera.
