GreenCell Mobility, through its subsidiary GreenCell Express operating the ‘NueGo’ brand of inter-city electric buses, has reached a significant milestone in sustainable transportation. The company has secured a power purchase agreement and strategically invested in a 1 MW Wind Solar Hybrid captive power plant in Ratlam, Madhya Pradesh.
This pioneering move positions GreenCell’s inter-city electric buses in Madhya Pradesh to be predominantly powered by renewable energy, aligning with the company’s broader objective of becoming a Net Zero entity. Devendra Chawla, CEO & MD of GreenCell Mobility, expressed optimism about the initiative, emphasizing its role in fostering a commitment to the planet and future generations.
The initiative reinforces GreenCell’s chase for sustainability and establishes the company as a leader in green transportation. Anticipated to meet a substantial portion of the electric buses’ power requirements, the use of renewable energy sources aims to reduce reliance on grid power and contribute to GreenCell’s long-term goal of achieving Net Zero status.
GreenCell Mobility is actively exploring similar agreements in other states of operation, to transition entirely from grid power to renewable sources. The company is also investigating the implementation of Battery Energy Storage solutions to ensure end-to-end green operations. Moreover, GreenCell is engaging with central and state stakeholders to advocate for policy changes supporting the widespread adoption of renewable energy for electric buses.
With the said announcement, GreenCell aims to increase the overall CO2 savings by up to 38,000 tonnes over the lifetime of the buses it operates with. This should drastically decrease the carbon footprint of its operations while also motivating other OEMs and suppliers to invest in renewable energy procurement.
