The Buddh International Circuit (BIC) is all set to host the IndianOil Grand Prix of India, and the excitement among the MotoGP riders is palpable.
During our track-side walk and interactions, riders shared their initial impressions of the track, and the unanimous opinion is that India’s grand prix circuit promises excitement during the race weekend.
Diverse Opinions on the Track
Riders’ opinions about the BIC were mostly positive. Some described it as interesting, while others found it unique compared to other circuits. For some, it’s a fun layout that promises an exhilarating race.
Defending champion and Ducati Lenovo Team rider Francesco Bagnaia expressed his positive outlook, stating, “I think the layout of the track is interesting. It’s nice and different compared to a lot of other tracks. So, I think it would be great.”
Jorge Martin of Prima Primac Racing, fresh from his victory at the San Marino Grand Prix, took a more hands-on approach. He explored the track by bus and bicycle to get a feel for it. Martin shared his excitement, saying, “I really like the layout. It will be really interesting. I’m so excited to go on the track, and I think, as Pecco (Bagnaia) said, it’s a bit different from what we are used to. So, yeah, we’re looking forward to tomorrow.”
Positive Impressions All Around
Marc Marquez, an eight-time world champion, has previous experience at the BIC. He expects the track to perform well, particularly if grip levels are good. Marquez commented, “It’s one of the circuits that, from the layout, looks really nice. But if the grip is good, then it will be even nicer.”
Mooney VR46 Racing Team rider Marco Bezzecchi praised the track and the venue. He stated, “To be honest, I liked it a lot. The paddock is very well organised, the plain is very beautiful, and we will know about the track only after riding on it, but it looks fantastic. A mix of corners that I really like.”
Challenges Await
For Brad Binder, the current record holder for the highest speed in MotoGP, there are certain challenges to navigate on the BIC. Riding for the Red Bull KTM Factory Racing team, Binder said, “I don’t really know where the speed trap is, but also it’s quite downhill, which is cool. But then there’s a big kick on the end, so where it goes uphill, it might kill the chances a little bit. But anyway, I think it’s a really long straight. More important than the top speed is stopping for the next corner, that’s where my focus lies.”
As the anticipation builds, the teams and riders are gearing up for what promises to be an electrifying and unforgettable debut for Grand Prix of India on the MotoGP calendar.
