Gogoro introduces CrossOver GX250 to the Indian market

International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certified the CrossOver GX250 in August for the Indian market.

Gogoro Inc., the global technology leader in battery-swapping ecosystems, introduced its first India-made Smartscooter, the CrossOver GX250. Simultaneously, the company also announced the immediate availability its battery-swapping infrastructure in the country.

CrossOver GX250: a tailored approach for Indian riders

Manufactured in Maharashtra, the CrossOver GX250 is the maiden Smartscooter produced by Gogoro in India. This new model is a part of the CrossOver series, which is built on a redesigned all-terrain frame, focusing on enhanced rigidity and comfort while offering versatile storage, riding, and customization options. “We are at the cusp of a dramatic change in the global urban transportation landscape, and with its more than 250 million mopeds and motorcycles India is well positioned to lead the shift to sustainable consumer and B2B transportation,” said Horace Luke, founder and CEO of Gogoro. “The Gogoro CrossOver series embodies everything our brand has come to stand for and the new made-in-India CrossOver GX250 is optimized for riders in India with more seating space, greater storage and better ground clearance.”

New all-terrain chassis and performance

The CrossOver GX250 incorporates a specially developed all-terrain frame, providing increased rigidity for improved strength and stability. The chassis offers a notable ground clearance of 176mm, the highest in Gogoro’s current vehicle lineup. Powered by a 2.5 kW Direct Drive, the GX250 achieves a top speed of 60+kph and has a certified range of 111km.

Flexible cargo capacity

With an emphasis on adaptability, the CrossOver GX250 features passenger riding space and multiple storage options, including a new mounting point expansion system with 26 locking points. The scooter accommodates various cargo scenarios, utilizing four cargo areas, including a platform design headlight, foot, seat, and rear cargo space.

Certifications and recognition

India’s International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certified the CrossOver GX250 in August for the Indian market. In November, Gogoro achieved recognition from the Small Industries Development Bank of India (SIDBI), making the CrossOver GX250 eligible for EV financing programs.

Commercial launch and business partnerships

The CrossOver GX250 and Gogoro’s battery swapping ecosystem will initially be available to business-to-business (B2B) customers in Delhi and Goa. Gogoro aims to extend its presence to Mumbai and Pune in the first half of 2024, with consumer availability scheduled for the second quarter of 2024.

Commercial partnerships

Recognizing the growing demand for sustainable transportation solutions, Gogoro is collaborating with various partners across three core business categories:

Businesses and Fleet Operators: Collaborations with partners such as Zypp involve enabling sustainable delivery companies and logistics fleets to transition from traditional internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicles.

Mobility-as-a-Service (MaaS): Partnerships like FutureEV explore sustainable business opportunities through shared mobility deployments, utilizing Gogoro’s GoShare platform.

Turnkey Solution: Collaborations with partners like Nebula Energy in Nepal focus on deploying a complete battery-swapping ecosystem and Smartscooters in new domestic and international markets.

Gogoro battery swapping ecosystem

At the core of Gogoro’s ecosystem is an open and interoperable battery swapping platform, recognized as the leading battery swapping company for lightweight urban vehicles by Guidehouse Insights. Gogoro’s battery swapping platform is lauded for its smart, safe, and dynamic features. In July, India’s International Centre for Automotive Technology (ICAT) certified Gogoro’s Smart Battery for India.

In Taiwan, the Gogoro Network, supporting nearly 600,000 riders, has facilitated over 1.3 million smart batteries in circulation through its network of 12,000 battery swapping stations at more than 2,500 locations. With over 400,000 daily battery swaps and a total of more than 510 million battery swaps to date, Gogoro’s battery swapping has contributed to saving over 785,000 tons of CO2 since its launch in 2015.
