Gogoro, HPCL partner for battery swapping infrastructure in India

At present, the Gogoro Network serves almost 600,000 riders and manages over 1.3 million intelligent batteries in circulation.

Gogoro Inc., a global leader in battery swapping ecosystems for sustainable urban mobility solutions, has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with Hindustan Petroleum Corporation Ltd. (HPCL), a significant Indian oil company boasting a network of over 21,000 retail outlets.

Fostering sustainable urban mobility in India

India is at the initial stages of a profound transformation in its urban two-wheeler transportation sector, with electric vehicles emerging as a pivotal element in this transition. Recognizing the critical role of battery swapping infrastructure in facilitating widespread adoption, Gogoro and HPCL are embarking on a strategic collaboration. Their objective is to establish an extensive network of Gogoro battery swapping stations within HPCL’s retail outlets across India in the coming years.

Founders’ perspectives

Horace Luke, the Founder and CEO of Gogoro, highlighted the significance of this partnership in the context of India’s need for intelligent electric transportation solutions. He underlined the company’s commitment to working closely with India’s business community, national, and local governments to develop a battery swapping and electric vehicle ecosystem that is open, accessible, and scalable.

Amit Garg, Director of Marketing at HPCL, emphasized the role of this collaboration in creating an extensive battery swapping infrastructure for two-wheel vehicles. The goal is to foster a thriving electric vehicle ecosystem in India, marked by safety, cleanliness, and widespread accessibility. HPCL expressed its confidence in Gogoro’s leadership in battery swapping technology and electric two-wheeler innovation.

Gogoro’s battery swapping network

In Taiwan, Gogoro has created a network of battery swapping stations that surpasses the number of traditional gasoline stations in cities. The Gogoro Network represents a next-generation approach to swappable battery refueling. It is smart, secure, and constantly evolving to provide dynamic and versatile services to riders, businesses, and communities.

At present, the Gogoro Network serves almost 600,000 riders and manages over 1.3 million intelligent batteries in circulation. This expansive network encompasses 12,000 battery swapping stations across more than 2,500 locations. With over 400,000 daily battery swaps and a cumulative total of nearly 500 million swaps, Gogoro Network’s battery swapping system has contributed to saving over 750,000 tons of CO2 emissions since its inception.

The collaboration between Gogoro and HPCL marks a significant step towards fostering sustainable and efficient urban mobility solutions in India. As the country embarks on its electric transformation, the introduction of a widespread and accessible battery swapping infrastructure is poised to play a pivotal role in shaping India’s electric vehicle ecosystem. This development aligns with the growing global emphasis on eco-friendly transportation and sustainable practices.
