First all-electric estate from Volkswagen christened ID.7 Tourer

The first all-electric estate from Volkswagen to be called the ID.7 Tourer. Volkswagen has released the first images of the ID.7 Tourer ahead of its global debut. Take the ID.7 Tourer as the all-electric equivalent of the Passat Variant, which is Volkswagen’s way of calling Estate body style.

The Volkswagen ID.7 Tourer is based on the ID.7 Limousine which is supposed to launch in the European markets soon. The ID.7 Tourer has a drag coefficient of 0.24, which is almost similar to that of its sedan counterpart, despite carrying a larger body style. Just for an idea, the ID.7 Limousine has a drag coefficient of 0.23.

While Volkswagen has only revealed the camouflaged images of the ID.7 Tourer, it gives us a rough idea about its silhouette. Given its MEB architecture, the ID.7 Tourer boasts short overhangs and a long wheelbase. Furthermore, it offers a large greenhouse area around the side a tapering roofline that merges with the tail of the estate.

Volkswagen claims that the new ID.7 Tourer will have plenty of space and a high-quality interior. These characteristics can be attributed to its born-electric modular architecture that not only maximises space by a long wheelbase but by also pushing the wheels at either corner.

Volkswagen reveals that the ID.7 Tourer, with 5 passengers on board, will offer a boot space of 545 litres. Upon folding the rear seat backrests, the estate can offer a luggage loading capacity of 1714 litres, which is almost a two-metre-long cargo space.

Volkswagen hasn’t dropped any deets about the powertrain of the ID.7 Tourer. Since it’s based on the ID.7 Limousine, it’s safe to assume that it will carry over the same powertrain options as well. The ID.8 Limousine comes with a 77kWh battery pack, which powers a rear-mounted electric motor. The battery offers a claimed range of 621km on a single charge and its electric motor offers 286PS of power and 545Nm of torque.

The ID.7 Tourer will be the third model to be manufactured at Volkswagen’s Emden plant. Currently, the carmaker produces the ID.4 and ID.7 Limousine at the same manufacturing facility. While Volkswagen hasn’t committed to a clear launch timeline for the ID.7 Tourer, it will go on sale in the European markets in 2024.
