Italian automaker Fiat is paying homage to Disney on its 100th anniversary with a display of five Topolino EVs wearing Mickey Mouse-inspired liveries. An exhibition of the one-off Topolinos has been set up on the fourth floor of art institution – Pinacoteca Agnelli – in Italy. The liveries worn by these compact EVs take visitors through a journey of art and time.
Designing of the liveries
Four Topolinos have been designed by Fiat Centro Stile inspired by Disney Creatives and the fifth one has been designed by Italian cartoonist and Disney artist – Giorgio Cavazzano. The first four EVs have been designed around four themes – historical, modern, street, and abstract, with each one narrating a chapter in the the life of both Topolino and Mickey Mouse.
The first art form in Black and White is based on the theme of history; it takes design inspiration from Disney’s first short film ‘Steamboat Willie’. The livery inspired by modern art incorporates a texture with Mickey Mouse’s initials. It exudes positive energy with bright colours. The third one – abstract livery – takes inspiration from Disney’s classic styling cues through abstract graphic touches and symbols. The fourth one – street creativity – takes an urban twist on Mickey Mouse by incorporating graffiti references.
What does Topolino stand for?
Today the name of an electric quadricycle from Fiat, Topolino was initially a nickname given by people to the company’s iconic 500 city car. Interestingly, it is also the Italian name of Mickey Mouse, which makes this collaboration even more exciting for both the brands. “We are truly honored to be able to celebrate our 100th anniversary with this magical moment that brings FIAT and Topolino together once again, in the spirit of creativity and the bond of friendship,” said Daniel Frigo, Country Manager of The Walt Disney Company Italy & Turkey and Head of Studio Italy.
