Ferrari revealed the new 499P Modificata during the Ferrari Finali Mondaiali 2023. The 499P Modificata is spawned out of the Le Mans winning 499P and has been reserved for non-competitive use.
The 499P Modificata is a substantially modified version of the 499P and Ferrari has designed it for a few selected clientele. Unlike the other Ferrari special models which find their roots in production cars, the 499P Modificata is crafted from the same cloth as the 499P Le Mans racecar.
A few major technical modifications between the 499P Modificata and the Le Mans racecar include the electric axle and four-wheel drive. The 499P Modificata also features a Push to Pass function that provides 163PS of boost as and when needed. It rides on specific tyres developed by Perilli and has a completely recalibrated suspension among other technical enhancements.
What lies at the heart of the 499 Modificata is the 2994cc V6 petrol engine, which works in conjunction with a front-mounted electric motor. The combined system output stands at 870PS, out of which 272PS comes from the electric motor. Its powertrain comes coupled with a 7-speed dual-clutch gearbox, differential and an energy recovery system, which feeds power to an 800V battery pack. It is worth mentioning that the engine of the 499P Modificata is a load-bearing unit, unlike other cars where the engine is mounted on a sub-chassis.
Like the 499P, the 499P Modificata sports an all carbon-fibre monocoque chassis. Furthermore, it also includes a push-rod suspension, brake-by-wire and brake energy regeneration. Since the 499P Modificata doesn’t have to comply with the FIA WEC regulations, Ferrari engineers were given a free hand to introduce new solutions to further enhance the dynamics of the Modificata. To start with, the Modificata could activate its front axle motor at low speed while the 499P was limited to do the same above 190kmph.
Another modification is the new push-to-pass system. As we mentioned earlier, it enables the driver to access a boost of 163PS for a duration of 7 seconds. The boost function gets activated with a press of a button placed on the back of the steering wheel, only when the accelerator pedal is fully pressed.
From 2024 onwards, Ferrari’s Corse Clienti department will organise the “Sport Prototipi Clinti” for the 499P Modificata owners, which will enable them to access specially curated track events. The technical, maintenance and logistical aspects will be covered by Ferrari.
