Evoluto enhances Ferrari F355 with modern fixes and sleek redesign

UK-based Evoluto Automobili is breathing new life into the iconic Ferrari F355, addressing its notorious flaws while modernising its appearance. Known for its exhilarating drive, the F355 has also been infamous for costly issues like soft valve guides, failing exhaust manifolds, and subframe corrosion. Evoluto’s overhaul aims to resolve these problems and elevate the car’s performance and aesthetics.

Evoluto’s comprehensive restoration begins with a donor F355, which is stripped to its chassis and meticulously cleaned. The chassis undergoes reinforcement with additional spot welds and carbon bracing, increasing its stiffness by 23%. The engine, a 3.5-liter five-valve V8, is thoroughly revamped. Evoluto CNC ports the heads, enlarges the cylinder inlet ports, and installs a larger inlet camshaft for improved high-rev stability. New solid lifters and custom-engineered exhaust headers lead into a full titanium exhaust system, enhancing both performance and the car’s signature sound. The updated ECU and wiring improve ignition timing, boosting horsepower from 380 to 420 and increasing overall reliability.

Attention to detail extends to the drivetrain, where Evoluto addresses the F355’s problematic quill shaft by milling a stronger, more precise unit to reduce vibration and power loss. A new suspension system, featuring Brembo slotted discs and six-piston calipers up front and four-piston calipers in the rear, improves handling and braking. Michelin Pilot Sport 4S tires are chosen to maintain a playful rear end.

The visual transformation includes a full suite of carbon-fiber body panels designed by Ian Callum’s consultancy. The updated exterior features a larger front intake, LED pop-up headlights, and reprofiled fenders with flush handles. The rear showcases a redesigned mesh grille and four LED taillights, with a focus on emphasising the F355’s natural curves while reducing weight from 3,135 pounds to 2,756 pounds.

Inside, the demo car features a striking blue Alcantara interior with customisable materials and colors. Evoluto plans to produce 55 of these enhanced F355s, priced at 690,000 pounds (USD 887,333 US) each. With half of the production already spoken for, the official debut is set for Monterey Car Week next month. Amjad Ali, formerly of Gunther Werks, emphasises that while the F355 won’t surpass modern Ferraris in handling, it is designed to offer a pure and engaging driving experience, capturing the essence of its original character.
