Italian motorcycle manufacturer Ducati has unveiled its strategic move into the off-road segment with the creation of the Off-Road Division of Ducati Corse. This development follows Ducati’s recent announcement of a project focused on off-road models set to debut in the near future. The initiative is slated to integrate national motocross competitions into its product development plan as early as 2024.
Key figures in the transition
Paolo Ciabatti, the Sporting Director of Ducati Corse from 2013 to 2023, has been appointed as the General Manager of the new Ducati Corse Off-Road Division. Ciabatti will play a crucial role in steering Ducati’s off-road endeavours and report directly to Claudio Domenicali, the CEO of Ducati Motor Holding.
Expansion into off-road competitions
The Off-Road Division’s primary focus will be on organizing and managing Ducati’s sporting program, encompassing participation in the prestigious MXGP World Championship and the AMA Supercross Championship in the coming years. Ducati has expressed its commitment to making a mark in the competitive world of off-road racing.
Ciabatti’s dual role
In addition to his responsibilities in the Off-Road Division, Paolo Ciabatti will retain his role in coordinating Ducati’s participation in the main national SBK (Superbike) and SSP (Supersport) championships for 2024. This includes prominent events such as MotoAmerica, British Superbike, All Japan Superbike, Australian Superbike, and CIV.
Leadership structure
Mauro Grassilli, the Head of Marketing and Sponsorships of Ducati Corse, will assume the role of Sporting, Marketing, and Communications Director of Ducati Corse. Grassilli will report directly to Ducati Corse General Manager Luigi Dall’Igna. This strategic realignment reflects Ducati’s meticulous approach to managing its racing and marketing functions.
Continued management of premier championships
While venturing into off-road competitions, Ducati Corse remains steadfast in its commitment to managing premier championships like MotoGP and WorldSBK. The company aims to build upon its remarkable track record in these championships, continuing the string of successes that has defined Ducati’s recent years.
Future endeavours
The creation of the Off-Road Division signifies Ducati’s strategic expansion into new realms of competitive motorcycling. With Paolo Ciabatti at the helm, the company is poised to navigate the challenges and opportunities presented by the off-road landscape. The move aligns with Ducati’s overarching goal of diversification and sustained success in various racing disciplines.
Ducati’s foray into the Off-Road Division underlines the brand’s commitment to exploring new avenues and embracing the challenges of off-road racing. As the company positions itself for participation in the MXGP World Championship and the AMA Supercross Championship, the motorcycling community awaits the unfolding of Ducati’s off-road chapter with anticipation.
