Cummins Honored for Energy Leadership Across 45 Plants in 8 Nations

Global energy leader Cummins has been awarded the 2023 Energy Management Insight Award by the Clean Energy Ministerial (CEM) for its remarkable efforts in clean energy technology deployment. Cummins achieved this recognition through the implementation of an energy management system certified to the ISO 50001 standard at 45 of its sites in eight countries, including nine plants in India.

The Clean Energy Ministerial serves as a vital global platform to drive clean energy technology, knowledge-sharing, and a transition toward a cleaner energy economy. Cummins was acknowledged for its high-quality case study, shedding light on the benefits and process of adopting an energy management system in line with the global ISO energy 50001 efficiency standard.

Cummins’ commitment to energy excellence is exemplified by its ISO 50001 certifications. It initially garnered attention with nine certified sites in 2016 and later announced a goal to expand this to 40 by 2020. Impressively, Cummins exceeded this target by extending ISO 50001 certification to 45 sites. These efforts, which led to significant CO2 reductions and cost savings, earned the company the Energy Management Insight Award.

The ISO 50001 framework empowers organizations to optimize energy consumption, perpetually enhance performance, and reduce costs and emissions. Cummins’ award-winning case study highlights key aspects of its certified energy management system and showcases substantial benefits achieved between 2018 and 2021, including $183,775,216 in energy cost savings, 2,297,587 metric tons of CO2-e emission reduction, a 9% energy reduction, and an 18% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions.

This recognition aligns with Cummins’ comprehensive PLANET 2050 sustainability strategy. The company aims to achieve a 50% absolute reduction in greenhouse gas emissions from facilities and operations by 2030. Such aspirations are essential for maintaining global temperature increases below 1.5°C and illustrate Cummins’ multi-faceted commitment to environmental sustainability.

Cummins’ impact is felt across its ISO 50001 Certified Sites in 8 countries, where its energy management expertise drives efficiency, sustainability, and innovation. The recognition received from the Clean Energy Ministerial underscores Cummins’ dedication to global energy leadership and its pursuit of a cleaner, more sustainable future.
