Continental-Nisshinbo JV Plant Boosts Localisation of Brake Systems

Continental, in partnership with Nisshinbo Holdings, has inaugurated a joint venture plant in Gurugram, underscoring its ‘in the Market, for the Market’ strategy. The new plant will play a key role in manufacturing valve blocks for Continental’s Electronic Brake Systems (EBS) in India, advancing localisation efforts.

Joint Venture Plant and Localisation Drive

Continental’s strategic collaboration with Nisshinbo Holdings led to the establishment of the joint venture plant, where valve blocks for Electronic Brake Systems will be produced. Nisshinbo’s machining capabilities will contribute to crafting these valve blocks, which will then be assembled into complete units at Continental’s Gurugram facility. As the automotive industry witnesses growing demand for safe technologies like EBS, this initiative serves both the sector and end consumers.

Continental’s Safety Commitment

Continental’s commitment to the Indian market aligns with its production of 7.3 million EBS units to date, encompassing Electronic Stability Control (ESC) for passenger cars and Anti-lock Brake Systems (ABS) for passenger cars and two-wheelers. This dedication is bolstered by India’s safety-focused legislation and Continental’s aspiration for Vision Zero, a world without traffic accidents. Dennis Fritsch, Continental’s Head of Active Safety and Controls segment, expressed the company’s commitment to shaping a safer mobility future through this partnership with Nisshinbo Holdings.

Steadfast Focus on Safety

Prashanth Doreswamy, President and CEO of Continental India, emphasized the non-negotiable nature of safety, highlighting the legislative push for road safety in India. Continental’s consistent investments in the Indian market, including this joint venture, reflect the company’s dedication to safety enhancement. The collaborative efforts with Nisshinbo Holdings are a testament to Continental’s growth and commitment to the Indian automotive sector.

Continental’s Pioneering Role in EBS Technology

Continental’s history of pioneering Electronic Brake Systems (EBS) technology in India includes a range of products such as ABS and ESC. Among these are products like the MK120 ESC tailored for passenger cars, alongside offerings like the one-channel MK100 MAB and MiniMAB, as well as the three-channel MK 3-2 MAB tailored for two-wheelers. This pioneering spirit aligns with Continental’s pursuit of safe and efficient mobility solutions.

Through this collaboration and the establishment of the joint venture plant, Continental takes a significant stride in augmenting the localisation of critical safety technologies, contributing to India’s automotive industry growth and road safety enhancement.
