BYD India celebrates 10 years of EV journey

Chennai: BYD India, a subsidiary of the global New Energy Vehicles (NEV) leader BYD, commemorated its 10th anniversary in the Electric Vehicle (EV) sector in India, underlining a decade of impactful operations in the country. This milestone reaffirms the company’s unwavering commitment to the Indian EV market and its dedication to driving sustainable growth through technological advancements.

BYD initiated its India operations in 2007, venturing into the electronics domain before expanding into various sectors. The pivotal moment in its EV journey came on August 20, 2013, when BYD India introduced its inaugural electric bus in Chennai, marking a significant chapter in India’s pursuit of electrified public transportation. This pioneering move paved the way for greener and cleaner mass transit solutions. Over the years, BYD India diversified its portfolio to encompass a wide range of products, including electric passenger vehicles, e-buses, e-trucks, and e-forklifts, positioning itself as a burgeoning leader in India’s EV landscape.

To mark its 10th anniversary in the Indian EV domain, BYD India also unveiled its new office in Gurugram, a strategic step underlining its commitment to the Indian market. This hub will serve as the nucleus for BYD’s operations, fostering innovation, collaborations, and partnerships, thereby deepening its engagement with local stakeholders, customers, and partners.

Globally, BYD has manufactured over 5 million NEVs, a significant accomplishment that translates into a remarkable reduction of 38 billion kg of carbon emissions. In the Indian context, BYD’s contribution to sustainability is evident, as it has contributed to reducing 274 million kg of CO2 emissions through its electric passenger vehicles, electric forklifts, electric trucks, and electric buses, all powered by BYD’s cutting-edge battery, powertrain, and chassis technologies. Notably, the cumulative mileage of BYD’s electric buses has exceeded 126,883,681 kms in India, with a single bus covering an impressive distance of 469,668 kms.

In the realm of electric passenger vehicles, the BYD ATTO3 and the All-New e6 have secured prominent positions in the premium eSUV and eMPV segments. These achievements underscore BYD India’s unswerving dedication to the Indian market, its commitment to environmental sustainability, and its endorsement of sustainable practices.

Sanjay Gopalakrishnan, Senior Vice President – Electric Passenger Vehicle Business at BYD India, said “BYD India is proud to celebrate a successful decade in the Indian EV industry as well as the inauguration of our new office in Gurugram.
