BorgWarner, a global leader in clean and efficient technology solutions for combustion, hybrid, and electric vehicles, has appointed Joseph Fadool as Executive Vice President and Chief Operating Officer (COO), effective July 1, 2024. Fadool’s appointment is part of a broader strategic reorganisation aimed at enhancing the company’s operational efficiency and market competitiveness.

Leadership transition

Joseph Fadool, currently serving as Vice President of BorgWarner Inc. and President and GM of Emissions, Thermal, and Turbo Systems, will step into his new role as COO. In this position, Fadool will oversee the operations of the entire company, with business unit presidents reporting directly to him. Fadool will report to Frédéric Lissalde, President and Chief Executive Officer of BorgWarner.

CEO’s perspective

Frédéric Lissalde expressed strong confidence in Fadool’s capabilities, stating, “Joe is uniquely positioned to take on the role of Chief Operating Officer given his deep familiarity with our organisation and understanding of the development and commercialisation of our technologies. Notably, his contributions leading our Emissions, Thermal, and Turbo Systems business unit over the last five years have resulted in strong growth and business performance, as well as fortified relationships with major global OEMs. I look forward to working more closely with Joe in this new role to deliver even better outcomes for our customers and our shareholders.”

Fadool’s vision

Joseph Fadool shared his vision for the future, highlighting the potential for sustained value creation. “I believe BorgWarner has an immense opportunity to deliver sustained value to our stakeholders through innovative product leadership and support our customers around the globe as they transition their future portfolios,” Fadool said. His appointment is expected to further drive the company’s strategic initiatives and strengthen its position in the evolving automotive industry.

Strategic reorganisation

In conjunction with Fadool’s appointment, BorgWarner has introduced a new business unit structure designed to enhance the execution of its Charging Forward strategy. This reorganisation aims to streamline operations and align the company’s financial reporting segments with its strategic goals.

New business unit structure

The new structure will see the Emissions, Thermal, and Turbo Systems led by Dr. Volker Weng. Drivetrain and Morse Systems will be managed by Isabelle McKenzie, while PowerDrive Systems will be under the leadership of Dr. Stefan Demmerle. Henk Vanthournout will head the Battery and Charging Systems unit. This reorganisation is intended to foster greater focus and accountability within each business unit, driving innovation and operational excellence.

Financial reporting alignment

Starting July 1, 2024, BorgWarner will align its financial reporting segments with the new business unit structure. This change aims to provide greater transparency and insight into the company’s performance across its diverse technological and product portfolios. The realignment is expected to facilitate better decision-making and enhance stakeholder value.

BorgWarner’s appointment of Joseph Fadool as COO marks a significant step in the company’s strategic journey. With Fadool’s extensive experience and proven track record, BorgWarner is poised to navigate the challenges and opportunities of the rapidly evolving automotive landscape. The strategic reorganisation and new business unit structure underscore the company’s commitment to innovation, operational excellence, and sustained value creation for its stakeholders. As BorgWarner continues to advance its Charging Forward strategy, the leadership and structural changes are expected to drive significant growth and success in the coming years.
