In a surprising turn of events, Audi has unveiled the R8 Japan Final Edition, contradicting earlier assumptions that the R8 GT RWD marked the end of Audi’s supercar era. Limited to just eight units, this Final Edition, which is based on the coupe, is set to mark the end of the R8 moniker in the Japanese automotive market.
The exterior of the R8 Japan Final Edition is painted in a striking matte Ibis White colour. The mid-engine sports car is equipped with 20-inch wheels featuring matte bronze spokes that are polished in a gold-like finish. Adding a touch of aggression and stopping power are the red callipers accentuating the ceramic brakes.
Carbon fibre takes centre stage with mirror caps, front spoiler lip, and side blades, ensuring a significant weight reduction. The rear wing, diffuser, and side skirts have all received the lightweight treatment, enhancing aerodynamics.
Inside the driver-focused cabin, Audi Japan has meticulously crafted a two-tone theme in Black and Alabaster White. The Nappa leather-wrapped seats are complemented by the Alcantara-covered headliner and rear loading area. The door sill trim denotes the model’s exclusivity, providing a sense of pride to the fortunate few who will drive the Final Edition home.
To further celebrate the uniqueness of each unit, buyers will be presented with a commemorative plate bearing the VIN number, further elevating the super-rare ownership.
The Audi R8 Japan Final Edition comes at a price of 35,080,000 yen, translating to approximately USD 247,000 at current exchange rates. This steep price tag reflects the exclusivity and performance enhancements that come with this R8 Japan Final Edition model.
As Audi bids farewell to the R8, signalling its imminent retirement, enthusiasts are left reminiscing about the iconic sports car. Following in the footsteps of the Audi TT, which saw its last assembly in November, both nameplates might make a return in the future as purely electric models.
