Audi is ushering in a new era of in-car entertainment by integrating the world’s largest video platform, YouTube, into the infotainment systems of selected models. Through an innovative app store, customers can seamlessly access a range of popular third-party apps via the Multimedia Interface (MMI), enhancing the in-car experience through a dedicated data link.
This groundbreaking integration brings the YouTube app to the app store for the first time. Video streaming capabilities are set to debut in handpicked Audi models during the summer of 2023, with other brands within the VW Group set to follow suit.
Starting this month, drivers of specific Audi models can conveniently access their preferred content through the YouTube app embedded within the vehicle’s infotainment system. The incorporation of the new app store, a collaboration between Audi, Volkswagen’s CARIAD, and partner HARMAN Ignite, empowers customers to seamlessly integrate their daily-use apps according to personal preferences. These apps span across music, video, gaming, navigation, parking, charging, productivity, weather, and news categories. Notably, apps like YouTube are directly integrated into Audi’s MMI system, bypassing the need for smartphone intermediaries.
YouTube’s integration will debut in the 2024 model year, available in select models equipped with the latest hardware and software from the third-generation modular infotainment system (MIB 3). Initial models featuring this integration include the Audi A4/A5, Q5, A6/A7, A8, Q8 e-tron, and Audi e-tron GT quattro. These models will have the option to include the store ex-factory in the European market, Canada, and the United States. The system’s expansion will encompass other regions and brands under the Volkswagen Group at a later stage.
