Aston Martin has teamed up with Lucid Group, a prominent electric vehicle technologies company, to accelerate its high-performance electrification plans and long-term growth. The collaboration entails Lucid supplying Aston Martin with cutting-edge EV technologies, forming the core of Aston Martin’s new in-house Battery Electric Vehicle (BEV) platform.
The partnership aligns with Aston Martin’s Racing. Green. sustainability strategy, involving an investment of over £2 billion in advanced technologies over the next five years. This move signifies a transition from internal combustion engine (ICE) to BEV technology, reinforcing Aston Martin’s commitment to electrification.
Lawrence Stroll, Executive Chairman of Aston Martin, emphasized the significance of the alliance: “The supply agreement with Lucid is a game changer for the future EV-led growth of Aston Martin. We selected Lucid for their industry-leading technologies, supporting our electrification strategy alongside Mercedes-Benz, providing us with world-class suppliers.”
Aston Martin’s bespoke platform, developed in-house, will underpin its entire electrified model lineup, spanning hypercars, sports cars, GTs, and SUVs. The first model, projected for a 2025 launch, will be followed by the plug-in hybrid supercar Valhalla in 2024. By 2026, all new Aston Martin models will offer electrified powertrain options, aiming for full electrification across its core range by 2030.
In addition to the Lucid partnership, Mercedes-Benz will continue supplying Aston Martin with advanced technologies, encompassing powertrains and electric/electronic architectures for various generation vehicles, including internal combustion engine, hybrid, and electric models.
Roberto Fedeli, Chief Technology Officer of Aston Martin, underscored the significance of the agreement with Lucid: “This partnership is a key component of our electrification strategy, enabling access to leading powertrain and battery systems technology. Combined with our internal efforts, this collaboration allows us to create a unified BEV platform adaptable to Aston Martin’s diverse product range.”
The collaboration with Lucid marks a pivotal move in Aston Martin’s journey toward electrification, reaffirming its commitment to embracing innovative EV technologies and positioning itself at the forefront of the evolving automotive landscape.
