India gets to taste the latest from the British sports car manufacturer with the launch of the new Aston Martin DB12. Serving as a successor to the DB11, the new DB12 unfolds a new chapter for the carmaker and a new segment, which Aston Martin fondly calls ‘Super Tourer’.
One glance would be enough to paint an evolutionary picture of the DB12 over the model it replaces. It continues to feature a gaping yet elegant radiator grille upfront that’s complemented with sweptback LED headlights, which now incorporate a new LED DRL design.
The DB12 only exposes its Aston Martin genes further upon opening the doors, which slightly go up towards either end, gracing its exterior stance.
Around the rear, the changes are far less dramatic but nerds with keen eyes may notice the 22mm extra rear track that’s added for better dynamics. If the flamboyance of the Aston Martin DB12 failed to make you splurge on your lifelong savings, the interior might just do the trick.
Move your way inside the new DB12 and you are greeted in the lap of luxury — an all-new dashboard draped with leather and an in-house designed infotainment system.
The clunky stone-age Mercedes-sourced infotainment system of the DB11 makes way for a new 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment system. Like most new infotainments, this one also runs Android Auto and Apple CarPlay wirelessly. For the melomaniacs of the world, Aston Martin has also engineered a bespoke sound system with Bowers and Wilkins, displacing 1,170W surround sound channelling through 15 speakers inside the cabin.
But it’s not just the old infotainment that’s gone, the V12 — which arguably has been the talking point of previous DB generations — has lost its battle against the stringent emission norms. What you get is a 4.0L twin-turbocharged petrol V8 sourced from Mercedes-Benz, which has been further enhanced by Aston Martin engineers. The result is 680PS of power and 800Nm of torque, all of which goes to the rear wheels via an 8-speed automatic transmission.
Now you can not only put down the power onto the road in a straight line but also carry it through the corners, thanks to a new electronic rear differential — a first for any Aston Martin model in history. The DB12 is capable of doing a sprint from standstill to a 100kmph in 3.5 seconds and tipping over 325kmph if the surroundings suffice.
If the flamboyance and new-age gadgetry of the Aston Martin DB12 have managed to pull the strings to your heart, all it demands is Rs. 4.59 crore (ex-showroom), before you become picky and add a myriad of options to the cart. Only 6 cars have been allocated to our shores till December 2023, so you better be quick!
