European multinational aerospace company Airbus has revealed plans of setting up a unique Tech Hub in Japan that will help steer technological advancement and innovation in aeronautics. This strategic initiative is designed to build partnerships within Japan for the advancement of aerospace technology for the next generation of aircraft. Headquartered in Tokyo, the Tech Hub will concentrate its efforts on three pivotal research domains: advanced materials, infrastructures for decarbonisation, and robotics and automation systems for industries.
The formation of the Airbus Tech Hub was officially announced at the Viva Technology 2024 show held in Paris which is one of the largest technology expos globally. The event was marked by the presence of representatives from the Japan Embassy in France, the French DGAC, JETRO, and Airbus: all the attendees highlighted the importance of the Tech Hub.
Deputy Chief of Mission and Minister of the Embassy of Japan in France, Yoshio Ando sais, “We look forward to the creation of Airbus Tech Hub in Japan, which using technologies from the country aims to help advance the international community towards solving some of today’s global challenges like the decarbonisation of aviation.”
For his part, Ravo Randria, Senior Manager of Cooperation Americas at Japan DGAC expressed the same view and noted that the Airbus Tech Hub has the potential to create synergies and consolidate the aviation value chain.
Speaking at the event, Chief Technology Officer of Airbus, Sabine Klauke, also highlighted the importance of the Tech Hub and how Airbus is determined to continue developing its relations in Japan. “We are honored today to have been able to establish the Airbus Tech Hub in Japan in cooperation with DGAC and METI. Airbus looks at Japan as a potential future partner country”, Klauke said.
The Tech Hub in Japan is among the latest of the string of such projects by the European aerospace company, initiated this year in Singapore and the Netherlands. These Tech Hubs act as main cores where Airbus’ research and technology departments, key partners, and academic institutions come together to co-create solutions for the future of aviation.
