The biggest differentiator between the Artura coupe and Spider is of course the convertible roof top. The Artura Spider packs a hard top roof, which retracts and shuts in less than 11 seconds. Despite carrying a hard top roof, the Artura Spider is the lightest convertible sports car in its category and carries an additional weight of 62kg over the Artura coupe.
Faster and spicier
Since the weight of the Artura Spider has gone up, McLaren has pumped up the power output to 700PS, which is 20PS more than the coupe iteration. It is worth appreciating that McLaren is also providing the power boost to the existing Artura coupe customers free of charge. In addition, McLaren has also recalibrated the transmission, which is said to now shift 25% faster than before. The engine mounts have also been revised, which further enhance the agility and rigidity.
McLaren has also made a few small adjustments and tweaks to deliver a likeable open top driving experience without compromising on outright performance. For instance, the four separate ducting system increase engine cooling airflow and heat extraction while reducing occupant buffeting. In addition, the new Artura model range, which includes both coupe and Spider, incorporate carbon ceramic brake rotors and brake ducts for additional cooling.Â
Hybrid power
Speaking of performance, the McLaren Artura Spider is the lightest and most efficient McLaren convertible, so it’s quite quick. It can sprint from standstill to 100kmph in 3.0 seconds; keep the throttle pinned and you can touch 300kmph in 21.6 seconds. The impressive acceleration comes courtesy of an electric motor that puts out 95PS and 225Nm.Â
Its electric motor draws power from a 7.4kWh battery pack, which is good for a claimed electric-only driving range of 33km. The hybrid components of the Artura, which includes the electric motor and battery pack, combine for an additional weight of 130kg. Lastly, the new Artura also offers new colour options along with a new stealth black badging, which can also be specced in silver.
