2025 Honda Pilot earns top safety pick+ rating from IIHS

The 2025 Honda Pilot SUV has achieved the highest safety recognition from the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety (IIHS), marking it as a leader in vehicle safety for the 2024 model year. This accolade places the Pilot in the coveted Top Safety Pick+ (TSP+) category, reflecting its outstanding performance across rigorous IIHS evaluations.

The Pilot excelled in several key areas contributing to its top rating. It received top scores in IIHS’ Crash Worthiness tests, which evaluate how well a vehicle protects its occupants in crash scenarios. Additionally, the SUV demonstrated exceptional performance in pedestrian front crash prevention and headlight effectiveness assessments. Notably, enhancements to the rear seat belts in the 2025 model significantly improved protection for second-row passengers in IIHS’ updated moderate overlap front test.

Honda’s commitment to safety is evident in its “Safety for Everyone” approach, embodied in the Honda Sensing suite of advanced safety and driver-assistive technologies. Standard on all 2025 Pilot models, Honda Sensing includes innovative features such as Collision Mitigation Braking System™ (CMBS™) with Pedestrian Detection, Forward Collision Warning, Road Departure Mitigation (RDM) with Lane Departure Warning (LDW), Lane Keeping Assist System (LKAS), and Adaptive Cruise Control (ACC). These technologies not only enhance safety but also set a benchmark for comprehensive driver assistance across the Honda lineup.

The Pilot benefits from Honda’s proprietary Advanced Compatibility Engineering (ACE) body structure, designed to optimise occupant protection in various collision scenarios. Recent refinements to ACE have further improved the SUV’s compatibility in oblique frontal collisions and its crash performance with smaller vehicles. Additionally, the 2025 Pilot features updated load-limiting retractors for second-row seats, which mitigate potential injuries in crash tests conducted by the IIHS.

Honda’s dedication to safety extends beyond individual models. With a commitment to achieving zero traffic collision fatalities involving Honda vehicles by 2050, the company continues to innovate in crashworthiness, collision compatibility, and pedestrian safety. This commitment is reinforced by Honda’s investment in state-of-the-art crash-test facilities and its ongoing advancements in passive and active safety technologies.

The 2025 Honda Pilot joins a distinguished lineup of Honda vehicles recognised by IIHS for their exceptional safety performance, underscoring Honda’s leadership in vehicle safety standards and innovation.
