One of America’s best-selling family SUVs goes under a design refresh, boosting its appeal in front of the rising competition from its Detroit stable mates. On the exterior, the new 2025 Ford Explorer boasts subtle changes, including a larger radiator grille, slimmer LED headlights, beefier front skid plate, and wider air intakes. In addition, the rear profile is enhanced with a set of updated tail lights, which lend it a connected strip-like design.
However, the big changes lie on the inside. Starting with Ford’s digital package, which brings a new 13.2-inch touchscreen infotainment system and a 12.3-inch digital instrument cluster. The new infotainment system offers native integration of Google Maps and supports Google Assistant as a gateway to perform most of the car functions like adjusting the climate control and setting up navigation. Thanks to the in-built app store, customers can also install third-party apps like Spotify, YouTube and Amazon Prime.
Like before, the Explorer comes loaded with a slew of standard equipment. A few notable features include a 10-way powered and heated driver’s seat, a 4-way powered passenger seat, wireless Android Auto and Apple CarPlay, a digital instrument cluster and touchscreen infotainment system and 8 USB ports. Higher trims further offer features like autonomous driving, ambient lighting, rain-sensing wipers, wireless smartphone charging and power-fold seats.
Moving on to the powertrains, the lower trims of the Explorer offer a 2.3L Ecoboost inline-4 petrol engine. It puts out 304PS of power and 420Nm of torque, which can be channelled to either the rear wheels or all four wheels. The higher trims come packed with a 3.0L V6 petrol engine, putting out 405PS of power and 562Nm of torque. All trims of the Explorer come with a 10-speed torque converter automatic transmission and optional all-wheel drive.
Ford has started the order books for the 2025 Explorer and its prices start from USD 41,220, which also includes destination and delivery charges. The deliveries, on the other hand, will kick start from the second quarter of 2024.
