Toyota has launched the 2024 Tacoma in the US market and it retails at a starting price of USD 31,500. The new Tacoma boasts an all-new design, more hardcore offroad capabilities and more efficient engines than before.
The 2024 Tacoma features a complete redesign, as it finds its underpinnings shared with the Tundra, Sequoia and Land Cruiser. Keeping the tradition alive, the Tacoma sits on a ladder frame chassis, which is constructed from high-strength steel for the US market.
Another highlight of the 2024 Tacoma pick-up truck is its new coil spring multi-link rear suspension. The new suspension is said to improve its ride and handling balance, both on and off the road. While the new suspension replaces the leaf springs setup for most models, the lower trims of the 2024 Tacoma continue to offer the more dependable leaf spring suspension.
The 2024 Toyota Tacoma also carries a new range of powerful and efficient petrol engines. The 2.4L turbocharged petrol engine in the base SR trim produces 228PS of power and 330Nm of torque. In the higher trims, the same engine puts out 278PS of power and 430Nm of torque.
Buyers also get to choose the more powerful hybrid powertrain, which makes use of the same petrol engine and a 1.87kWh battery pack. Combined, the system offers a total power and torque output of 326PS and 630Nm, respectively. Select variants of the Tacoma come with the option of a 6-speed manual transmission with auto rev-match while the remaining trims come with an 8-speed torque converter automatic transmission.
Befitting its rich history as a rugged off-road pick-up, the 2024 Tacoma continues to offer promising off-road prowess. The 2024 Tacoma offers a 34.4-degree approach, 26.1-degree breakover and 26.1-degree departure angles. Its other off-road-centric features include a multi-terrain monitor, multi-terrain drive modes, CRAWL control function, electronically lockable rear differential and downhill assist control.
At the time we are filing this story, Toyota has only shared the starting price of the 2024 Tacoma, which is marginally more than the outgoing model. Toyota suggests that the new Tacoma will start reaching dealerships in December 2023.
