Mercedes-AMG has unveiled the latest addition to its lineup of high-performance vehicles, introducing the Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance two-door coupe. This new model integrates hybrid power technology under the E Performance banner, marking a significant step forward in the brand’s pursuit of both power and efficiency.
At the heart of the GT63 S E Performance lies a potent combination of a twin-turbocharged 4.0-litre V-8 engine and an electric motor. Together, they deliver an impressive 816 PS, with the V-8 alone contributing 611 PS. Torque figures are equally impressive, reaching a combined 1,419 Nm of torque. This formidable powertrain propels the GT63 S E Performance from 0 to 60 mph in a blistering 2.7 seconds, positioning it as one of the fastest-accelerating AMG production models to date.
While the GT63 S E Performance is classified as a plug-in hybrid, its focus remains squarely on performance rather than efficiency. The battery pack boasts a capacity of 6.1 kWh, with details regarding electric-only range to be disclosed at a later date. Charging options include both plug-in and driver-selectable recuperation settings, the latter offering a one-pedal driving experience akin to electric vehicles.
Power distribution is managed by a nine-speed automatic transmission paired with Mercedes-AMG’s 4Matic+ all-wheel-drive system. Under normal conditions, the electric motor drives the rear axle exclusively, though power can be redirected to the front axle when slip is detected. The GT63 S E Performance comes equipped with rear-axle steering, AMG Active Ride Control suspension, and carbon ceramic brakes as standard features, ensuring both dynamic handling and stopping power.
Visually, the GT63 S E Performance closely resembles its non-hybrid counterpart, with subtle badging and a discreet charging port being the only discernible differences. Under the skin, however, enhancements have been made to the active aerodynamics system to optimise performance for the hybrid powertrain.
Inside the 2+2 cockpit, occupants will find the familiar Mercedes-AMG refinement and comfort. Pricing details for the 2025 Mercedes-AMG GT63 S E Performance will be disclosed closer to its anticipated late 2024 release date.
