Lamborghini has electrified its best-selling model — the Urus — and thankfully, it does not come with engine downsizing. The Urus SE retains the 4.0L twin-turbocharged V8 petrol engine, which now comes coupled with an electric motor and a 25.9kWh battery pack.
The battery pack is stowed between the load cover and rear differential. The engine alone puts out 620PS of power and 800 Nm of torque. The electric motor adds 192PS of power and 283 Nm of torque, taking the combined power and torque output to 800PS and 950 Nm, respectively. As a part of the update, Lamborghini has also added new features such as electric torque vectoring and electronically-locking rear differential.
Thanks to the added electrified performance, the Urus SE takes 0.1 second less to go from standstill to 100kmph over the Urus S. The Urus SE goes from 0-100kmph and 0-200kmph in 3.4 and 11.2 seconds, respectively. The enhanced performance has also resulted in a higher top speed of 312kmph. However, the Urus Performante continues to be the fastest Urus on sale, hitting 0-100kmph in 3.3 seconds. Â
Since the permanent-magnet synchronous electric motor is located inside the 8-speed automatic transmission, it is capable of both assisting the engine and transmitting power directly to all four wheels, making it an electric SUV with a driving range of 60km. Lamborghini claims that the addition of the plug-in-hybrid drivetrain has reduced the emissions by up to 80%.
In order to stand the new Urus SE apart from its pure ICE siblings, it features a tweaked front fascia. The changes on the outside include redesigned LED headlights with a slimmer LED DRL design, redesigned bonnet, and radiator grille. Furthermore, Lamborghini has also streamlined the design of the new Urus SE, adding to its aerodynamic efficiency. The redesigned boot hatch, a new rear diffuser and spoiler contribute to 35% addition in rear downforce.
