2024 Hyundai Elantra, Tucson earn IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award

Both the 2024 Hyundai Elantra and Tucson were found to be compatible with the latest Plus award parameters. The Top Safety Pick+ is the most coveted award under the IIHS and it tests the frontal crash avoidance of a vehicle on both day and nighttime. To win the Top Safety Pick+ award, the tested vehicle should earn a good rating in the driver-side overlap front, passenger-side small overlap front, original moderate overlap front and updated side tests.

In addition to that, the vehicle should also offer acceptable or good headlights as standard across all trim levels and a front crash prevention system. The crash prevention system should earn advanced or superior daytime and nighttime vehicle-to-pedestrian ratings.

Both the Hyundai Elantra sedan and Tucson complied with all the safety assessments required to earn the IIHS Top Safety Pick+ award. There is also a lower-tier Top Safety Pick award, which can be earned with an acceptable rating for the side test and an advanced or superior rating in the daytime vehicle-to-pedestrian test.

In the test conducted by the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety, the Elantra earned a superior rating in both the daytime and nighttime pedestrian tests and all of its trims come equipped with good-rated headlights.

Speaking about the Tucson, the standard front crash prevention system supplied with the SUV also earned a superior rating in the daytime test and an advanced rating in the nighttime evaluation. Furthermore, the Tucson offers two variations for its headlights, both of which were rated acceptable in the test.

Commenting about the result announcement, Brian Latouf, global chief safety officer, Hyundai Motor Company said, “This is great news for our recently refreshed Elantra sedan and Tucson compact SUV, two of our highest-volumes models. We made it a priority to improve our vehicles’ safety engineering to meet the more-stringent TSP+ testing requirements recently instituted by IIHS. We are extremely proud that Hyundai now holds five TSP+ (2023 Palisade, 2023 IONIQ 6, 2024 Tucson, Elantra and IONIQ 5) and one TSP (2023 Sonata/Sonata HEV) for the 2023 IIHS vehicle ratings.
