Volvo CE showcases the largest electric solutions at Excon 2023

Volvo Construction Equipment (Volvo CE) India showcased an extensive array of electric machines at Excon 2023, South Asia’s premier Construction Equipment event. The exhibition, which featured the largest display of electric machines in India, highlighted Volvo CE’s dedication to providing customers with the tools necessary to meet their productivity and sustainability objectives.

The company’s commitment to sustainability spans various sectors, including mining, material handling, steel, cement, and urban infrastructure. At the forefront of this initiative is the commercial launch of the EC500 Electric, India’s first grid-connected electric excavator in the 50-ton class. This step signals Volvo CE’s push toward zero-emission mining and construction machinery.

In addition, the L120 Electric Wheel Loader, presented as a pilot launch, provided a glimpse into the future of material handling at various construction sites. This electric loader promises no tailpipe emissions, near-silent operations, and an enhanced work environment. The EC80 Electric, showcased as a near-production prototype, extends Volvo CE’s electric portfolio, delivering superior performance with 6-8 hours of autonomy.

Volvo CE also showcased India-developed electric compactors, DD40 and PT220, highlighting advanced instrumentation and zero-emission operation. The DD40 Electric Compactor, with reliable charging capabilities, offers potential energy cost reductions of up to 50%. The PT220 Electric is designed for environmentally sensitive areas, adhering to strict emission regulations and ensuring cleaner and quieter construction operations.

These electric machines underscore Volvo CE’s advanced engineering capabilities and commitment to providing sustainable local solutions for the Indian market, aligning with the government’s Atmanirbhar Bharat focus.

Dimitrov Krishnan, Managing Director of Volvo CE India, emphasised the company’s dedication at CII Excon 2023, stating, “We stand at the forefront of an Indian earthmoving equipment market projected to reach a phenomenal 10-15% CAGR over the next five years. Our excavators, haulers, wheel loaders, and other equipment cater to a diverse range of sectors, including construction, mining, infrastructure development, and material handling.”

Krishnan further emphasised Volvo CE’s role in driving a paradigm shift with innovative electric solutions and comprehensive sustainability support. The company aims to make sustainable options accessible and desirable, leaving a lasting legacy of positive change.

Beyond electric innovation, Volvo CE highlighted its commitment to supporting customer success with new-age service solutions. The Equipment as a Service (EaaS) business model offers a value-added scalable service that bundles state-of-the-art equipment with efficiency measures, eliminating concerns about high capital costs and technology updates.

Volvo CE India also offers a comprehensive set of productivity services, including operator simulators, smart assist solutions, machine configuration, and training. Uptime services, such as automatic machine monitoring and real-time tech support, ensure maximum uptime and reassurance for Volvo CE customers.
