Hyundai has added a new Calligraphy Night Edition to its flagship SUV’s line-up, the Palisade. As the name suggests, the Night Edition is based on the range-topping Calligraphy trim of the SUV and comes with a fully blacked-out exterior & interior, and a few additional mechanical features. In terms of price, the Night Edition demands a premium of about $3,500 in the starting MSRP (Manufacturer’s Suggested Retail Price) over the Calligraphy trim.
Over and above the Calligraphy trim, the Night Edition of the Palisade comes with all-wheel drive (optional on Calligraphy), Downhill Brake Control, and snow and tow modes. On the exterior, the radiator grille, rear bumper garnish, rear H-logo & ‘PALISADE’ emblem, and door side mouldings feature a dark-tinted chrome finish. The lower front and rear fascia, 20-inch alloy wheels and roof rails feature a gloss-black finish to further accentuate the all-black theme.
Inside, the Nappa leather upholstery of the Calligraphy trim has been replaced by black micro-suede cloth. A dark aluminium upper console trim completes the all-black interior theme.
Now, things become interesting when it comes to the exterior colour options available for the Palisade Calligraphy Night Edition. Clearly, this version is meant to offer a stealthy look for the Palisade. So, ideally, it should only be available in the Abyss Black colour (seen in the images). Funnily, there’s one more colour option available, and out of all possible dark colour shades, Hyundai picked…Hyper White! Yes, the Calligraphy ‘Night’ Edition also comes in white. Has Hyundai opened itself up to mockery for doing this? Perhaps.
Apart from the feature additions and visual differences, under the hood, the Night Edition brings no changes. It continues to be powered by the same 3.8-litre six-cylinder GDI engine (as in the Calligraphy trim) that develops 291HP and 355Nm of torque.
