Bajaj Auto, renowned for its innovative prowess, has introduced the world’s first CNG motorcycle, the Bajaj Freedom, with prices starting at INR 95,000 (ex-showroom Delhi). This launch aims to revolutionise the two-wheeler market by offering an eco-friendly and cost-effective alternative to traditional petrol motorcycles.

The Bajaj Freedom CNG motorcycle is designed to provide significant savings in fuel costs, making it an economical choice for riders. With a CNG tank that offers a range of over 200 kilometres on just 2 kg of CNG fuel, the Freedom ensures long rides with fewer refuelling stops. Additionally, it features a 2-litre petrol tank that acts as a range extender, offering an extra 130 kilometres if the CNG tank runs out, ensuring a seamless and uninterrupted journey.

Commitment to green mobility

Bajaj Auto’s commitment to environmental sustainability is evident in the Freedom CNG motorcycle. CNG combustion produces approximately 26.7% less CO2 emissions than petrol, significantly contributing to the reduction of greenhouse gases. Additionally, CNG vehicles emit 85% lower non-methane hydrocarbons (NMHCs) and 43% less nitrogen oxide (NOx), making them a cleaner and greener option for daily commutes.

Enhanced comfort and safety

Designing a CNG motorcycle posed unique challenges due to the compact nature of two-wheelers. However, Bajaj Auto has integrated the CNG tank and kit securely within the trellis frame of the Freedom motorcycle. The vehicle has undergone rigorous testing to ensure safety and reliability. The horizontally inclined engine and Link-Mono shock system optimise space and provide a stable and comfortable ride.

With a friendly saddle height of 825mm and a narrow mid-section, the Freedom motorcycle offers easy ground contact for riders. Despite the addition of the CNG tank, smart weight-saving measures maintain a similar centre of gravity to petrol motorcycles, ensuring neutral handling and rider confidence. The mono-linked type suspension system provides better wheel travel and comfort, making it suitable for various riding conditions.

Legacy of innovation

Bajaj Auto has a rich history of pioneering innovation in the automotive industry. From introducing India’s first sports motorcycle, the Pulsar, to launching the country’s first CNG three-wheeler, the Bajaj RE, and electric scooters like the Chetak, Bajaj Auto has consistently set benchmarks. The Pulsar, now exported to over 50 countries and a market leader in more than 20, is a testament to Bajaj’s commitment to making advanced technology accessible to everyone.

Through innovation, Bajaj Auto Ltd. has addressed the twin challenges of reducing rising fuel costs and reducing the environmental footprint from travel. The initiative also aligns strongly with the Government of India’s infrastructure projects for building a CNG network driven by the need to use cleaner fuels and save foreign exchange. Over 75% of two-wheeler customers rate fuel efficiency as a key attribute. Freedom 125 is aimed at all such customers, and we invite them to ‘Ride the Change.’”
